As the Seattle International Piano Competition approaches, we’re excited to spotlight some of the most accomplished participants in this year’s event: the Collegiate and Professional Artists. These categories attract pianists who are either in the midst of their higher education at prestigious institutions or are already making their mark in the professional world.
This year, the Collegiate Artist category has drawn 37 applicants from top music schools around the world. These institutions include The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, and Tokyo University of the Arts, among many others. These young artists have spent years honing their craft under the guidance of some of the world’s leading pedagogues, and their performances are sure to reflect the depth of their training and experience.
Meanwhile, the Professional Artist category features 52 competitors who are already well on their way to establishing themselves in the concert world. These pianists come from countries such as Brazil, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, bringing with them a wealth of performance experience and a deep understanding of their repertoire. Whether they’re playing a Transcendental Etude by Liszt or an Etude-tableau by Rachmaninoff, these artists are sure to deliver performances that are both technically dazzling and emotionally compelling.
What makes this competition even more thrilling is the live format, returning to Benaroya Hall for the first time since the pandemic. The energy of a live audience combined with the intensity of competition creates an atmosphere unlike any other. As these artists take the stage, they’ll be performing not only for the jury but also for you — the audience — making each performance a shared experience that will linger long after the final note is played.
As we count down to the competition, we’ll continue to share more about the incredible talent that will be on display. Don’t miss your chance to witness these extraordinary artists in person. Tickets are selling fast, so be sure to secure yours today.
